Profile: 2016-2017 K2 Marksman

We already touched on the Marksman in our coverage of new skis at Outdoor Retailer, but we dove in a bit deeper at SIA.

Asymmetrical skis aren’t new, but this year, several companies (including Lib Tech, Elan, ON3P, and K2) are using this shaping. What makes the Marksman a bit different is the fact that it’s being marketed very clearly as a hybrid of two well-known skis.

The outside edge of the Marksman is a carryover from the Pinnacle 105 (with a sidecut and tip taper that’s reminiscent of the Pinnacle 95 we reviewed). The inside edge of the Marksman comes straight from the Petitor.

The Pinnacle and the Petitor share a few characteristics, but overall, they offer very different rides. So we’re curious to get these things on snow and start answering questions: Does the Marksman take the best of both skis and meld it into one versatile all-mountain weapon? How does it compare to the Shreditor 112 and 103 that it replaces? And, most importantly, what happens if you put them on the wrong feet???

  1. I think the skis in the first picture are switched up? The skis should be swapped so the tips and tails pointing more inward than out (right foot ski on left side and vice versa). Really looking forward to your guys thoughts and review on this ski.

  2. I skied these today at the snowbasin demo day. They carved surprisingly well and were stable on takeoffs and landings. I imagine they are fun in soft snow but we don’t have any for me to try them in. by the way, you have them swapped in the first picture.

    • I got to try them out March 13th up at mission ridge and I agree with John. Out of the twelve different skis I tried out they were the most fun to go out on. We had 5 to 8 inches of snow and it skied great; no darting around, floated great and once it got chopped up it plowed thru that. I didn’t get to ski on really firm groomed so…
