These skis are very similar overall, and just like the regular Deathwish vs. regular Wildcat 108, the big difference comes down to their rocker profiles. With its Triple Camber profile, the Deathwish Tour offers better edge hold and some people may actually find it easier to get on edge at slower speeds since you can more easily get its edges to bite in (despite its longer stated sidecut radius). On the flip side, the Wildcat Tour 108 is a touch easier to pivot / slide around, particularly in shallow / firm conditions, and for lack of better phrasing, its camber profile feels a bit more “normal.” The Triple Camber profile’s extra “bite” into the snow feels a bit different than most other rocker / camber / rocker skis and we think the vast majority of people will quickly get used to it, but you can read our full review of the Deathwish for more on that.

The bottom line is that both of these skis are excellent options for those looking for a playful, lightweight, versatile touring ski, and the two feel similarly stable. The Deathwish Tour makes more sense if you like the sound of its better edge hold if you’ll be using this ski on firm, steep snow, while the Wildcat Tour 108 makes a bit more sense if you want a slightly looser ski and / or aren’t ready to take the leap on Triple Camber.

Surprise surprise — these identically shaped and identically rockered skis feel extremely similar.

The largest difference, which is pretty noticeable, comes down to suspension and overall stability. It’s pretty straightforward — the ~300-g-heavier Wildcat 108 does a much better job of smoothing out rough snow, and gets knocked around less at high speeds in rough and / or heavy snow. On the flip side, the Wildcat Tour 108 is way lighter on the skin track. If you like one, you’ll like the other, and it just comes down to how much time you’ll be dragging this ski uphill under your own power, and how much you care about low weight vs. stability and damping.

This one is interesting. Both of these skis let you ski them with a centered or forward stance (the WC Tour 108 lets you drive it a bit harder through the shovels), both are loose and surfy while still being pretty solid on edge, and they’re not super far off in terms of weight. The biggest difference is suspension — while the Intention 110 is only about 100 grams heavier per ski, it feels notably more damp. The Wildcat Tour 108 is a bit lighter on the skin track, but the Intention 110 performs better at speed on rough snow. The Wildcat Tour 108 is probably the best alternative to the Intention 110 if you want something just slightly lighter, and it also makes sense if you want to throw tricks in the backcountry (slightly more balanced feel and a higher tail that’s better for landing and skiing switch).

Atomic Backland 107, 182 cm (18/19–20/21)

These two are similar in terms of weight and suspension, but the other aspects of their designs make them feel pretty different on snow. The Backland 107 has a very strong preference for a forward, driving stance, while the Wildcat Tour 108 will let you ski pretty centered or forward. The Backland 107 can be pushed a bit harder / is more stable at speed when you’re really driving it, which may make it more appealing to directional skiers with good technique. On the other hand, the Wildcat Tour 108 is a bit more forgiving and way more playful overall (looser, more balanced). Both are versatile across most conditions, so the deciding factor should be which one sounds like it’d better fit your skiing style / stance.

Similar story as the Backland 107 — the Zero G 105 is similar to the Wildcat Tour 108 in terms of damping and stability, but it feels like a much more directional and slightly more demanding ski. The Wildcat Tour 108 is much easier to pivot, ski from a centered stance, and isn’t quite as quick to punish backseat skiing, while advanced skiers will be able to ski a bit harder on the Zero G 105 at higher speeds in rougher snow. The Zero G 105 also feels a bit more biased toward firmer conditions, offering better edge hold and quicker turn initiation but not floating as well or being as maneuverable / surfy in fresh snow.

The Wayback 106 sits on the lighter end of the spectrum in the touring category, so it’s not surprising that the Wildcat Tour 108 wins in terms of both suspension and stability at speed. But arguably the bigger difference is the mount point — the Wayback 106’s mount point is 6 cm back from the Wildcat Tour 108’s mount point. The Wayback 106 is a much more directional ski, and while it’s an easy ski that will accept a centered stance when necessary, the Wildcat Tour 108 feels more natural and intuitive when you’re not putting a ton of pressure on the shovels. That said, the Wayback 106 will feel lighter on the skin track and if playfulness and / or higher stability aren’t huge priorities, the Wayback 106 could be a better choice.

Black Diamond Helio 105, 185 cm (17/18–19/20)

Similar story as the Wayback 106 — the Helio 105 feels like a much lighter, more directional ski vs. the Wildcat Tour 108. The Helio 105 gets knocked off track more easily than the Wildcat Tour 108, while the Helio 105’s weight makes it a bit better for longer days. Then there’s the Helio’s more directional design — it has a stronger preference for a forward stance and is slightly more punishing of backseat skiing, while the Wildcat Tour 108 feels more playful overall.

Now, this is actually a good comparison. Both of these skis are very lightweight, yet playful skis. They’re both accepting of forward or centered stances, they are both surfy while still offering good edge hold, and overall are two of the best options in this weight class for skiers looking for something playful.

The main differences come down to shape and flex pattern. The Vision 108 is a less tapered, softer ski. As a result, the Vision 108 is much easier to bend into tighter turns and generally get on edge at slower speeds, and it’s also very forgiving of backseat skiing. Conversely, the Wildcat Tour 108 is more stable at high speeds and a bit surfier / looser in heavy, deep snow and crusts. So this one mostly comes down to how much you care about stability at speed vs. a forgiving flex pattern and / or carving at slower speeds.

Another interesting one. The 189 cm Facelift 108 & 184 cm Wildcat Tour 108 come in at similar weights, and both are designed with playful skiing in mind. That said, the Facelift 108’s more forward mount points and way shallower rocker lines make for significant differences.

First off, the Facelift 108 has a strong preference for a centered stance, while the Wildcat Tour 108 is more accepting of both centered and forward skiing styles. Then there are the rocker profiles — while they’re similarly loose in deep snow, the Wildcat Tour 108 is surfier / easier to pivot in shallower conditions. Neither ski is great in terms of turn initiation due to their tapered shapes, but both are pretty good in terms of edge hold. In terms of overall stability, we’d give the nod to the Wildcat Tour 108, mostly due to its less tapered shape, longer radius, and slightly heavier weight-to-size ratio.

4FRNT Raven, 184 cm (16/17–20/21)

These are two very solid touring skis for those who prioritize downhill performance over super low weight, and as with the Vision 108, the Raven is also pretty versatile in skiing stances.

That said, the Raven’s longer sidecut radius and reverse-camber profile make it pretty different vs. the Wildcat Tour 108. The Wildcat Tour 108 offers easier edge engagement and may be more predictable on firm, smooth snow for those accustomed to cambered skis. On the other hand, the Raven is even easier to pivot in all conditions, and it’s a bit better / easier in really weird conditions like weird crusts. The Raven is also a bit more damp, and offers slightly better stability in variable conditions.

In the end, this one mostly comes down to how you feel about reverse-camber profiles and long sidecut radii.

Renoun Citadel 106, 185 cm (18/19–19/20)

As always, the Citadel 106 is an outlier. While it’s even lighter than the Wildcat Tour 108, the Citadel does a significantly better job of absorbing and muting out impacts when you push it hard, due to its HDT construction. If you want one of the best weight-to-damping ratios on the market, the Citadel 106 is worth consideration.

Suspension aside, these skis feel fairly similar. They’re both pretty playful, versatile skis that let you drive the shovels or steer from the middle of the ski. The Wildcat Tour 108 is more energetic and floats a bit better in deep snow, and its higher tail makes it a better option for throwing tricks. The Citadel 106 is a more forgiving ski if you get backseat, and its suspension is really the biggest difference.

Faction Agent 3.0, 180 cm (20/21)

The Agent 3.0 is and feels like a much more directional ski than the Wildcat Tour 108. The Agent 3.0 is also a bit better in terms of suspension and overall stability. On the other hand, the Wildcat Tour 108 is easier to pivot at slower speeds and from a centered stance. The Agent 3.0 is the better carver in terms of turn initiation, edge hold, and power thanks to its shallower rocker and taper lines, while the Wildcat Tour 108 floats better and is far more playful overall. This one mostly comes down to your skiing stance.

Folsom Cash 106 Carbon, 184 cm (19/20–20/21)

You could kind of think of the Cash 106 Carbon we’ve been skiing as a heavier Helio 105, or a more forgiving, playful Agent 3.0.

In other words, this Cash 106 Carbon feels more directional than the Wildcat Tour 108, but it’s not as demanding as the Agent 3.0. The Cash 106 Carbon we have is notably more damp and stable and a better carver than the Wildcat Tour 108, though the Wildcat Tour 108 is more playful overall and more maneuverable.

The Cash 106 is a very solid alternative to the Wildcat Tour 108 if you want a pretty stable, pretty lightweight touring ski that’s a bit more stable and that you can carve harder, but that won’t kick your butt as soon as you get backseat, or that’s super difficult to slarve around.

  2. Hi, good comparisons. I’d be interested to hear how it compares to the Volkl BMT, 100Eight, it’s replacement the Blaze and the Vwerks Katana. The Vwerks Katana seems to be left out a lot of the deep dives for the 50/50 and middle/heavy weight touring skis of late. Which is a shame because it’s a good yard stick in this category (skis around 1800 = 2000 grams, 108- 115mm, light enough for short tours and decent inbounds)
