PLAYFULNESS (Open Ended):
I don’t ski many skis without Titinal, so anything without seems fairly playful to me. That said, I loved flicking this thing around. I could tell that maybe it wanted to carve sometimes when I wanted to slarve, but the ski eventually yielded to what I wanted to do without being too punishing. Very energetic and balanced.
SKI LENGTH: It felt just right (182 cm length tested)

WHAT TYPE(S) OF SKIER DO YOU IMAGINE WILL GET ALONG BEST WITH THIS SKI?
More advanced skiers that don’t need the most playful ski in the world but are looking for something that they can definitely charge with but also without the burden of a high swing weight. If you live in the west and are considering a one-ski quiver, I think this could be it. Beginner and intermediates can probably ski this as well but won’t be able to get the most versatlity out of it until they learn how to drive the ski themselves.
ARE THERE SIMILAR PRODUCTS YOU’VE SKIED THAT YOU CLEARLY PREFER? IF SO, WHY?
I have the J Skis Hotshot in 183 which I love. It was a hard decision to grab the Countach 104, because I thought they might be close, but I wanted something lighter. The Hotshot, which also carves surprisingly well for it’s width, definitely has more tank like suspension and will just mob anything you go through without thought. However, while easy to slarve around and be a bit playful, it’s a tiring ski. The Countach gives me a bit of the confidence of the Hotshot without the added weight, and is definitely way more fun to flick around if that is what you are looking for. So…I’m glad I have them both for different purposes, I don’t clearly prefer one over the other, but that’s the comparison I have.

I really loved this ski. There are few skis that I have clicked into right way and on the first run feel “oh yeah, this one’s good”. This is one of those skis. This one ain’t leaving the quiver. While not the first in class in any category (carving, playfulness, stability, flotation), it does them all pretty damn well. It may be a “master of none” type of ski, but it’s way better than your average jack — more like the master’s right-hand man. It gets all the jobs done VERY WELL, and does it in a way that’s fun, capable, playful, and honestly better than most skis that try to specialize.
