Technical boots certainly have their place. But for day to day life, most of us don’t need a GORE-tex’d, Vibram’d-out, fully waterproof boot that can stave off frost bite in 40-below-zero temperatures.
Most of the time, most of us just need a boot that we can wear to work, the dog park, the store, the bar, or on our way to the mountain.
And for that, the Merell Reze Mid is great.
Style
Looks are certainly a subjective matter, and these might be a bit polarizing. But I really like the style of these. They look to me like leather high top sneakers, with distinctive stitching and eyelet details.
Of course, you’ll need to roll up those jeans or ski pants if you want to show it all off. Otherwise, the look is a lot more subtle:
Fit / Sizing
My size 10.5 Reze Mids feel pretty true to size, nothing unusual to report. They have a modest amount of arch support—not minimalist, but not extreme.
My particular feet wouldn’t mind if the arch support was located about half a centimeter farther back, but once I’m in the shoes or out hiking, I don’t find the arch support to be intrusive at all. Lace them up and forget about them.
Cushioning
The cushioning is moderate. The Reze Mid purportedly has an air cushion in the heel, but I don’t notice it. These don’t feel over-the-top cushy, and I regard that as a plus. But if you’re into super squishy, plush cushioning, these may not be your thing.
Traction
High marks here for the Reze Mid. I’ve done about 30 shorter hikes in these over frozen, icy, uneven ground, and I’ve had no issue with these, ever. A+
Bottom Line
The Merrell Reze Mid has been a go-to for me, I find myself grabbing them for all of the occasions mentioned in the intro. They’re comfortable, the footbeds and arch support aren’t overly-engineered, and I like the look.
I came across this review and was wanting to replace an old pair of shoes that were similar to this and tried to find these for sale. Where did you pick these up at?
