Background:
Born and raised five minutes from Smuggler’s Notch, Vermont, it’s no surprise that I’ve been skiing for most of my life. I started off as a Mitey Mite on the bunny slopes at the age of two, and found myself in the world of ski racing by the time I was six.
From opening day until spring, I was training or racing every weekend, but by age thirteen, skiing on the weekends just wasn’t enough. In eighth grade, I enrolled in Mount Mansfield Winter Academy, where I had the opportunity to ski six days a week in Stowe, Vermont, and race competitively all over New England. Once the season was over, I would travel and train for a couple of weeks in places like Les Deux Alpes, Zermatt, Whistler, Mt. Hood, and Nakiska.
During my junior year of high school I fell while racing in a Giant Slalom and tore my ACL. Since then, I’ve taken skiing less seriously and started doing it just for the fun of it. I raced one more year after my injury, but was not nearly as competitive as the previous years.
Because of my background, it’s safe to say that I like to ski fast and thoroughly enjoy carving down steep corduroy. Though most of my days on skis have been turning around gates and training for races, I have been exploring new aspects of skiing ever since I moved to Boulder five years ago to study at the University of Colorado.
Moving to Colorado opened my eyes to a whole new world of skiing. Every run on the mountain is a new adventure, searching for the best line and the deepest powder. Lately I have found myself heading for the trees almost every run. Though I really enjoy ripping down the mountain, I really like playing in the trees and bouncing from mogul to mogul.
Skiing started as a competitive sport for me, but now it is just pure enjoyment. Any day spent skiing on the mountain is great day in my life. When I’m not in school or working, you can find me at the mountain, exploring new trails and pushing myself to become a better skier.
Skis I’m stoked on: Nordica Santa Ana, Coalition Snow Abyss, Moment Bella
Hey Morgan! I was wondering if you have any suggestions for me on skis. I am about your height plus 15 lbs. I ski pretty aggressively and live in Montana. I like to ski off piste mostly. I’ve been looking at the 4frnt Kye 110 in the 181 length but am worried they might be too long. I have been skiing on the Volk Gotama (original version, no rocker) in 176 length. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
