We’re taking two skis to Las Leñas from Salomon’s 2012-2013 expanded Rocker 2 line: the new Rocker 2, 115 (which we’ve already introduced), and the new Rocker 2, 108.

While the 115 was designed to be a big-mountain, harder-charging version of the “original” Rocker 2 122 of last season (with a different rocker profile than the 122), the 108 is simply a narrower version of the 122.

If the 115 appears to be more of a purpose-built tool for the advanced / expert skier, the 108 looks like it could suit a wider range of ability levels and riding styles.

It also looks like a versatile tool for resort riding (especially for the West) or as a backcountry jib and touring ski. Given its shape and its fairly round, moderate flex pattern, the 108 may be a good option for both intermediate and expert skiers looking for a one-ski quiver this season.

We’re interested to see how the Rocker 2, 108 stacks up against some of the other very good, playful, versatile tip-and-tail rockered members of its class, especially the Line Sir Francis Bacon, the Rossignol Sickle, and the Moment Deathwish.

With two brand new Rocker 2s at our disposal in Las Leñas, we’re looking forward to testing the expanded line to see whether these iterations live up to the hype of the original 11/12 model.
