Intro
Along with the redesign of the M7 Mantra, Völkl also simplified the naming scheme of their metal-laminate freeride skis in their 2024-2025 collection. As we discussed in our video on the lineup, the Kendo 88 and Kendo 84 were renamed the Mantra 88 and Mantra 84, respectively, but they were constructionally unchanged from the 23/24 versions.
For the 2025-2026 season, Völkl is tweaking the construction of those two skis, and we’ve started testing them. This appears to be a relatively subtle update, with the main differences being a tweaked iteration of the brand’s “Tailored Carbon Tips” (as we saw on the M7 Mantra) and a very slight update to the shape of the metal in their “Tailored Titanal Frame.”
We’ve posted our initial impressions in our Flash Review, but while we spend more time on the Mantra 84, Mantra 88, and the women’s versions of both skis, we’ve added here our measured specs, rocker profile pictures, and flex pattern numbers for two lengths of the Mantra 84.
Flex Pattern
Here’s how we’d characterize the flex pattern of the 177 cm Mantra 84:
Tips: 8.5
Shovels: 9
In Front of Toe Piece: 8.5-10
Underfoot: 10
Behind the Heel Piece: 9.5-7.5
Tails: 8
And here’s how we’d characterize the flex pattern of the 184 cm Mantra 84:
Tips: 8.5
Shovels: 9
In Front of Toe Piece: 8.5-10
Underfoot: 10
Behind the Heel Piece: 9.5-8
Tails: 8
Like the other Mantra skis we’ve tested, the Mantra 84 is quite stiff overall. Its tips and tails are stiffer than many comparable all-mountain skis, though the areas between the bindings and the ends of the skis aren’t as notably stiff compared to other skis in this class.
