Farther up the Marte chair, this classic Las Leñas chute (in the center of the photograph) called “Manhattan” is one of many sustained 40+ degree lines to be found in the area.
We’ve been privileged to become friends this week with Las Leñas backcountry guide, Danny Maniero, the first person ever to ski the 1100 ft. line of Manhattan. Danny has been a guide at Las Leñas since the day the ski center opened in 1983, and if the snowpack stabilizes after this current storm, we’re going to see if we can get him to hit up Manhattan with us this week. Somehow, I don’t think we’ll have to ask him twice.
