Jonathan — thanks for doing more pieces touching on tele! As a long time tele skier who skis almost exclusively with alpine skiers — on-piste, cat, backcountry — it’s great to see some coverage and I really liked Geoff’s thoughts on the comparison between the two. I know there’s a devoted group out there who shares my thanks to you!
I absolutely love the idea of skiing/biking/whatever being a user interface with the world. Whether I am at home or somewhere else, to live within a framework of skiing (or something else) and interacting with other people who also interface with the world that way is wonderful. This is also a great way to describe people who lack a user interface. You go to Paris and take a selfie in front of the Eiffel Tower, rather than have a user interface with Paris which you are passionate about such as food, art, cycling, whatever. No user interface, no passion. Like Disneyworld or a cruise ship.
I also love GM saying he is going skiing regardless of conditions. You go to ski an meet people and if the conditions are perfect, even better.
Furthermore I have full respect and admiration for individuals who have multiple variety of these user interfaces and I think it’s super important. What will you do if you are laid up with an injury for months? Mope and watch ski movies? Or paint or draw or play guitar or volunteer?
