While it seems like just about every company nowadays has some sort of environmental mission or “green goals,” United by Blue does things a little differently. Instead of operating as a nonprofit or donating a percentage of their earnings to environmental causes, United by Blue gives their time and effort to clean up waterways.
United by Blue organizes and hosts ocean and waterway cleanups across America, and for every product they sell, they pick up one pound of trash.
The company explains it like this, “By associating a concrete environmental action with every business transaction, we are able to have a measurable impact on this important issue.” To date, they have reportedly organized 131 cleanups in 22 states, and picked up 243,988lbs of trash.
It’s commendable.
As for their Standard Zip Hoodie…
This is the lightest-weight hoodie of the four in our group, so consider it for warmer-weather use rather than as a piece to break out when temperatures really begin to drop. It is thin, it is made of 100% organic cotton, and it is stripped down—no hoodie drawstrings here.
The Standard Zip Hoodie is indeed a “standard,” regular cut, and the Large fits my 5’10” / 180 lb. frame well. This hoodie isn’t necessarily short, but it is the shortest hoodie in our group—the front zipper length on the size Large is 60.5 cm—so I would be a bit cautious before downsizing.
The Standard Zip is about as simple and as straightforward as a hoodie can get, and at $55 USD, it’s not at all a bad price if you’re looking for a sharp, thin, 100% organic cotton hoodie from a company that isn’t merely talking about responsibility and sustainability.
