Today Nordica announced a brand-new collection of skis, the Unleashed series.

In short, these skis are designed to be the more playful, maneuverable, off-piste-oriented counterparts to the Enforcer and Santa Ana series. They also serve as the replacements for the long-standing Soul Rider series, which has been a Blister favorite for over a decade (!).

The Unleashed collection consists of three unisex models and two women-specific models: 90, 90 W, 98, 98 W, and 108. They’ll be available this season from select Nordica dealers, and more widely available for the 2022-2023 season.

The Unleashed skis look a bit more like the Enforcers / Santa Anas than the Soul Riders, with a slightly more tapered tip and tail shape (relative to the Soul Riders) and deeper rocker lines. On that note, it’s interesting that the Unleashed skis actually have shallower rocker lines and a steeper, more abrupt rise to the tips and tails than the Enforcer / Santa Ana skis. Typically, we’d expect the more playful ski to have deeper rocker lines, but Nordica says the Unleashed skis’ tip profiles provide “more tip initiation and deflection in soft snow” while their more turned-up tail makes them “easier to swivel and break free while also offering a more favorable setup for riding switch.”

As for core construction, the Unleashed 98, 98 W, and 108 all feature a construction that looks a bit like a blend between that of the Enforcer, Santa Ana, and Soul Rider skis. The three widest Unleashed skis have a poplar / beech wood core, carbon / fiberglass laminate, and a single layer of Nordica’s “Terrain Specific Metal.” This is essentially a layer of titanal that is thinner around the middle of the ski and then extends nearly edge-to-edge at the tips and tails, with the goal of making the ski easy to bend and manipulate through the cambered portion, but then more stable at the rockered portions. This layer of metal also differs in size and shape between models, with narrower skis having more metal and wider ones having a bit less. The widest three Unleashed skis also feature Nordica’s “True Tip” construction, which has the wood core extending farther toward the tips and tails than is typical, with the goal of reducing swing weight (relative to skis with big plastic tip spacers in those areas).

The Unleashed 90 and 90 W are more budget-oriented skis “for younger up and coming skiers” and they do not feature the metal layer or True Tip construction, but still feature a wood core and carbon / fiberglass laminate.

We’re very excited to get on these new skis and will report back with any updates in the future. In the meantime, here’s more info on the Unleashed skis, courtesy of Nordica:

  1. How does the 98W compare to the Nordica Nemesis (W) from a few years (+?) ago? It was a 98 waist, and lightweight. worked well for small women.

  2. Is this the ski I’ve been looking for? I’m in the market for a +/- 100 underfoot ski to fit between my enforcer 88s and Atris. I want it to be versatile to use when it’s not high and dry (like it’s been in UT for the last 30 days) or super deep. I’d previously been considering an enforcer 100 (I’m an enforcer partisan), rustler 10, or wailer 100 RP. Seems that this ski might combine the attributes of those others into a single package.

    Now where to test…

    • I demo’s the 108 today at Lake Louise. 3 inches overnight mountain had varied conditions.

      My quick take:

      – moguls feel like you’re using a cheat code. This was the standout feature for me.
      – loves to pop off everything
      – not the best through rough chop at high speeds.
      – for a twin freestyle ski I had fun carving it but didn’t blow my mind.

  3. The Nordica info you show above for the 90W includes the TSM metal. Is this a mistake? You said the 90’s don’t have metal. Are they going to lack dampness? I’m small and I feel like I need metal to compensate for my lack of heft. Why does Nordica think the opposite?
