Forty years ago (May 22, 1985), snowboarding was featured for the first time ever in a massive, mainstream film: the James Bond movie, A View to a Kill’. So in honor of its 40th anniversary, JBobb, Simon, and I break down the opening on-snow action of the film; discuss its historical significance; and share a number of wild facts about this crazy movie and its star-studded cast.
But whether you love or hate this movie, there’s no question, every skier and snowboarder out there ought to have seen this movie’s opening scene.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for making 3 hours in LA traffic go by a bit quicker….
Like you guys, I did not remember snow boarding being a thing in this movie, and I am 90% sure I saw this in the movie theater back in 1985 the first. It is not very high in my list of rewatchable James Bond movies either. I certainly would not have re watched it without Blister Cinematic.
Roger Moore was definitely past his prime in this movie (Heck he was even old and creepy in “For your eyes Only”). The opening was pretty standard James Bond, and heck we all want to be him. Good at everything including Snow Surfing / Boarding in White Ski boots. It sets the movie up that he just cannot be killed, and then he just gets better after a couple of Martini’s.
I know a 1984 Corvette may not be a big deal to you guys. But I would make a VERY large bet that Chevrolet paid a nice sum to make sure that they had the coolest car in the movie. This would have been the time of the debut of the 4th Generation Corvette. So yep I will take that one, assuming the pop up head lights work.
Last thing, Jonathan there is nothing that says 80’s more than the music list of Hip Hop you spoke of Run DMC and the Beastie Boys are just as 80s as Duran Duran. I like to think the 80’s was the beginning of multiple cultures and styles meshing together. And people being okay with the exchange of cultures mixing. Yes there was Neon and Pastels with Euro Pop, next to Adidas sweat suits and hip hop. All mixed together in the same sound track from MTV.
The Duran Duran song a View to a Kill definitely aged the best and won the movie. As that is the only thing about the movie that I could remember with out re watching the movie.
