Today Amie Engerbretson and I are breaking down Katie Burrell’s ski comedy, Weak Layers. It’s a hilarious, not-very-suitable-for-work movie that features many of your favorite skiers and an incredible number of great lines, but please, just remember to “Shhhhhhh!”

I really really really wanted to like this movie. Meaning, I have watched it 3 times hoping I was missing something wanting to like it.
But, I just cannot get there. I guess wanted a different movie. Maybe it is my age. As you and Amie discuss, the script for the roommates just killed this movie for me. I would have loved for the party roomies to have shown up and been supportive. They had an opportunity to get that “Girl Power” thing going. It is a movie it is supposed to be inspirational and feel good. I really think Katie Burrell really missed the mark there.
Imagine if hungover Lucy would have puked on the Tram, and then ripped an awesome run in the contest. Or if Tina would have laid down a sick line for the film, after hooking up with a Fireman. Better yet, the Nobodies film actually was in the Hot Lapse contest and was competitive. It was a good concept btw.
Instead we got: Cleo’s ex boyfriend saving the crew with his van. Tina and Lucy with the Tech Bro’s letting them live in their Chalet. Cleo and Gabe getting together. Essentially Dumb Drunk Girls having some dude to rescue them, and quitting is okay. None of that is not good or funny. Yes this is my Hot Take!
The filming, the ski hero’s, the location, and the idea for the movie were great. The execution of the script not good.
