Today I’m talking with Kara Williard and Eli Brown about one of the oldest cultivated crops in the world: garlic. We discuss hardneck garlic vs softneck garlic; how to grow garlic; its medicinal properties; black garlic; garlic honey; and … vampires.
(Full disclosure: as you’ll see, it’s pretty much false advertising to call Kara an “amateur” when it comes to garlic.)

Garlic as vampire repellant has to be some serious gaslight propaganda. I’m convinced that vampires are lazy and just want us to self-season prior to consumption.
Haha, fantastic take. Those vamps are savvy.
A fantastic episode! While listening, I pulled out my jar of garlic honey just before Kara brought it up. I’ve gotta find a local producer of hardneck garlic now. Garlic Ginger paste is another great ferment I’ve done with a strong mixture of flavor. Plus it’s always a nice treat to hear Jonathan so out of his element, surrounded by two experts/aficionados.
Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for introducing me to yet another new thing: garlic ginger paste? I’ll have to investigate.
