Craft N/A Cocktails are on the rise, but there is still much that needs to change in this space — fundamental things like what we should and shouldn’t be calling this whole category, and why that matters. Today, I discuss these things with my CRAFTED co-host (and professional mixologist) Eli Brown, who sees the real-world importance of these things every day. You’ll hear about the project he’s working on to create change, and you’ll learn why one of the fastest-growing whiskey companies in the world, Uncle Nearest, is so interested in the N/A space.

NA cocktails, and NA beer, is great for those like my wife who don’t drink alcohol and those like me who do but want to keep it down to a healthy-ish 1-2 drinks. The key is making them actually good.
On the beer side, I love New Trail’s Broken Heels NA Hazy IPA and Sam Adams Just the Haze – both are delicious, and I will happily drink them anytime.
On the cocktail side, my wife and I really like the sweet and fruity Samantha Jones from Charlie Was a Sinner in Philly:
Samantha Jones
1.5 oz Abstinence Blood Orange Apertiff (Amazon carries it)
0.5 oz lime juice
0.5 oz pomegranate juice
1 oz simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, dissolved)
(or 1 oz grenadine + 0.5 oz simple syrup if you have grenadine but not pomegranate juice)
Shake for 8 seconds and strain into a coupe glass.
Thanks for the suggestions, Alex – sounds like I’ve got some stuff to try….
