  1. Terrific episode! I’d been wondering for a while why you had passed up Yearbook (which is an obvious “all-time” ski movie), now we know.

    Getting totally nit-picky, the “agony of defeat” gut from ABCs Wide World of Sports was a Slovenian ski jumper who crashed in 1970 (see wikipedia).

    Herman Maier’s famous crash happened at the Nagano Olympics Men’s Downhill in 1998: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_IA1TYpVKU&t=18s

    I watched Maier’s crash live at the time with a bunch of other racers. Pretty scary.
