  1. wrt FIS and private equity, it feels like a choice between hidebound, inept leadership and rapacious short-termist capital. Tough call. I do question how well they could or would work together in an 80/20 partnership – this may ultimately be an all or nothing deal.

And I’m not just saying that because I’m annoyed about having to subscribe to both Peacock and skiandsnowboardlive (btw skiandsnowboard’s app and webUI are both hecka janky).

    • I subscribe to Skiandsnowboardlive too and it’s beyond janky. I can’t give much credit to FIS’ leadership, foresight and management in just about anyway, but for some reason, this felt like a good call from FIS for me.

      • While we’re dunking on skiandsnowboard.live, how about the commentary?

There was a brief moment when they appeared to be hiring some recently ex-USST racers like Alice McKennis to do it, and that was _really_ good, and now they just buy the UK stream which is OK. But in the beginning it seemed to be some random dude in his basement with a club-racer-level understanding of the sport.

Seriously, my initial reaction was the same as yours. But then I thought about some of the things the FIS has tried to do over the years (like mandate 40-meter GS skis) and just settled on “conflicted”.

  2. 100% on being on time (or early)! One of my few life successes was getting my kids on that train, through the teen years.
Related… show up at trailhead with skins on skis!

  3. This is more related to last week’s podcast, but it’s amazing how much the privileged people who are fortunate enough to live in beautiful mountain towns bitch and moan about costs and crowds. I’ve been skiing in Utah since the mid 80’s during most seasons. That hasn’t changed. Whether it’s a snowbird day pass or Ikon I’m here, as are many others. What has changed is the number of younger and middle aged people who have moved out west, especially since the work remote craze started during Covid. It’s Thursday at snowbird and it’s packed. It’s snowing. Yesterday was meh. By most of y’all’s logic hundreds if not thousands of ikon users from texas flew out and overran the resort. If you choose to move out here from a community that gets 60 inches of rain per year to a place that gets 20, don’t bitch about tge visitor from Georgia or Indiana who is working a non- remote job, dealing with people everyday in person, not on zoom, who takes his family in a week ski vacation and rents an Airbnb because hotels are $1200/night. The Airbnb situation has escalated primarily because rich coastal elites purchase properties for investment purposes. Don’t blame it on the family from Dallas who go in to work at 6-7am instead of working remote in ba bathrobe in Sandy.

    • “By most of y’all’s logic”….

I pretty much agree with the points you’re making, I’m just not sure if you’re aiming them at Cody and / or me and / or Jason Blevins … or just whoever is “fortunate enough to live in beautiful mountain towns bitch and moan about costs and crowds”?
