This was a great show. I listened on the flight up to Reno this afternoon, and went straight to the Moment Factory off of the plane.
Luke could not have been nicer to Kimberly and I. He gave us a tour, talkied skis, and a little shop talk on Shipping with me. Plus gave a recommendation on hiking at Palisades. Thank you Luke.
I have my Countach 104,’s in hand, so i guess it is time to start praying for snow now.
Got the 190 Fatcat and the Countach 110 188 (and the Belafonte Triple 186, Meridian 187, Commander 108 182 cast, Exit World 1st version cast, Wildcat Tour 118 190 atk, Commander 102 182 and now New from Blacksheepsports the Wildcat 116 184 and i skied half the season 2023 on the bananas 193s)
I gotta say of ALL the moments i maybe Was most excited bout the Counach 110, but the ride Was Then a bit underwhelming to the point that i have to say its a bit overrated at least as a true quiver ski….if you compare it to the fatcat 190 it is not as composed at speed in rougher chop, its less Balanced in terms of stance, its less energetic, its doesnt pull you into a 2d turn(taper), its not that of a natural stomping machine, it has a higher swingweight, it is not easier to ski especially in tight spots, its shovel submarines even more than the bibbys, and the dampness/speedlimit is just kinda the same….dont get me wrong, in small quivers they May be useful, but i dont find a true application for its envelope and for my intention in this slot (cast ski for freeride plus days) i sold the countach and got me the last 185 cochise where the fatcat has its true versatile and easy charger brother that has all the ingredients for the targeted use beneath the 116/118 class…just my 0.2 cents regarding the lambo hype
Been seeing the Moment’s flying out the door at Blacksheep, guess one was yours Ben. That’s quite the selection you have there and thanks for the insights on the C110
Great to hear from Luke about what’s going on over at Moment. Would love to try both of the 104’s.
I bought one of the new Meridian’s a year ago and have really enjoyed it so far, I have tried a few reverse camber skis and this one feels the most pivoty so far, which is what I wanted. Had forgotten there was a wider Meridian for a while – I would be very interested!!
Hope you can get on the C104, Meridian and Chipotle soon Jonathan
Mt. Rose is fantastic, like a fever dream of how an old VT resort used to be. But better.
I have a secondhand Mantra M4 @ 177 that I love, so if you are experimenting with reverse camber Commanders I would be fascinated to see a 102 reverse
Woah, woah, woah…. Jonathan throwing cold water on Luke’s new found functional fitness obsession of CrossFit. As someone for whom CrossFit changed my life years ago, I can’t recommend it enough to every skier (and parent) out there. It makes fitness fun, engaging and no matter how strong and fit you get, it only gets harder.
Can’t wait to drop into the Moment factory when my friend brings me out to Tahoe soon!
Ha, as I think I said on the podcast, if and when good technique is really taught and emphasized, then I’m fine with CrossFit. When good technique is not emphasized… I’m not.
And I feel the same about all forms of strength training – not just CrossFit.
But sounds like it’s working out well for you and Luke and Luke’s spiked hair!
Jonathan, you definitely qualified your critique with that caveat. I was just pumped to hear how it’s reenergized Luke and wanted to echo his sentiments. In my experience, the coaching has gotten more consistent from box to box than in the early days of the movement.
But I can’t defend his spiked hair, but I’ll say his 80’s, just for men enhanced mustache look will play very well during the Halloween WOD.
Thanks for the Rose love!
