Love the conversation on the obsession with the best low light lense.
Great podcast, as always. One question I’m always curious about with the pros: How often do they take a covert lap or two on gear that isn’t from their sponsors? Just to see what else is out there…Even if they can’t name names, I’d love to hear about it and if it’s a regular thing or not.
Having talked to a lot of them about this … I can say that it ranges quite a bit: some — the majority, I’d say — spend extremely small amounts of time on gear from other manufacturers, while a few others try to get on the boots or skis from the competition, especially if / when they’re involved in the development of a new product.
But one cool thing: we hear a lot from pros who say they read our reviews to keep tabs on what’s going on in the gear world. That’s always nice to hear.
“I hate it, it’s my least favorite thing… I would far rather ski crap snow with good light than really good snow in bad light.”
I’m in complete agreement. As I get older, my eyes have become more and more sensitive to changing light conditions (why I’ve gone from driving all through the night to now absolutely loathing any time spent behind the wheel in the dark) and I believe my vision is the number one factor which dictates how much fun I am going to have on a particular day.
I am also with Jonathan in that I too am “brand agnostic” and just want somebody to help me out. I have lost count of how many models I have bought, tried, and sold in the past two seasons alone. Going to give Shred a go, and I have a pair of their new goggles inbound. Here’s to hoping that hey are keepers!
Post your update here. I’m on board with the best flat light goggle around.
I finally got my hands on these Shred goggles, and while I’m currently sidelined letting this arm of mine heal up, I promise to report soon.
The GOOD: The Shred CBL 2.0 has tremendous clarity and contrast. Maybe the best I’ve found in a goggle lens.
The BAD: The tint is dim. Too dim for flat light, and frankly a little too depressing for cloudy/overcast conditions.
I’m not throwing in the towel on them yet, however. I’ve moved back to Revo for now, but I keep bringing the Shred with me on each outing. I think I’ll try to give them a serious second chance next time out.
Love the spring marketing campaign. I’ll start with my wife.
Thanksgiving, I probably don’t understand the scope of this holiday but in Europe and NZ still a big race to open early as possible.
The plate and screws in my hip say ski later in the season too!
