Who better to discuss the great 80’s movie ‘Quicksilver’ than a former San Francisco bike messenger? Steve Smith (allhailtheblackmarket.com) joins Blister senior editor, Simon Stewart, to talk about this film starring a very young Kevin Bacon, and the lads get right into why it had a memorable bike influence on them. Of course, Steve weighs in on how realistic the film is, what’s aged the best, what’s aged the worst, and just what the hell Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is all about.

Ladies and Gentlemen Kevin Bacon has finally gotten to Blister Cinematic. How many podcasts are 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon?
Simon, good choice for a movie. I have watched Quicksilver several times over the years, but I cannot remember if I saw it first in the theater or not. I was in High School at the time, so I saw a lot movies in 1986.
I rewatched with Kimberly last night, and we both enjoyed the movie. It was a fun entertaining feel good story.
As a road cyclist / triathlete though it was painful watching KB ride up the hill in the race, and then in final chase scenes as he has an awkward hitch in the way he rides under torque. If I were messenger, I would not ride a single speed or a fixie in San Francisco on the job. No way / no how that’s happening. I am going compact or gasp triple with a granny gear. I am saving my patellar tendons, so I can go to work the next day. Pretty sure Blister+ does not cover over use injury.
What aged the worse? Green Bad Guy Ford LTD’s.
Burning Question? Was the Green LTD his work car? I mean he sold $5k in guns, and he had a thriving Bad Guy operation. Did he drive something a little more sporty or luxurious on his days off? Plus he should have taken some Bad Guy Driving lessons.
Fun show.
Simon, when are you and Jonathan doing For Your Eye’s Only? Good Skiing, Lots and lots of what did not age well, and you can discuss the Lotus Turbo Esprit. Plus a whole bunch of dudes who needed Blister+.
