In the future, will we still have public lands? Will new economic policies crash the outdoor industry? Will a popular drug actually get more people outside? Will we all soon be ski touring on e-skis (just as more and more people are riding e-bikes)? And will the phones in our pockets eventually replace satellite phones and our avy beacons?

Saying ‘buy US made only’ is ethno centric and therefore bad is a very large simplification also.
Tariffs have been around for an awfully long time. And the US is majority immigrants, just depends on how far you go back in time to set a boundary on that. Trumps a clown but telling your fellow US citizens they are ethno centric is how he comes to be your president
FWIW, I agree. There are *lots* of good reasons to ‘Buy local’ or support the companies in your particular town or state or country. For sure. But it is also a fact that, at times, the ‘only buy from your country’ message can – and has – come from ideologies of prejudice. Both things are true, and that’s what I was trying to say in the podcast. So we need to understand our own motives and principles, and also the motives and principles of the people and groups behind the messaging. The motives and principles won’t always be the same.
Hey Jonathan, another great episode. In relation to the avy beacon conversation, at my local mountain…Mt Hood, the Ski Patrol use an app called Airflare which uses your phone’s Bluetooth in place of a locator beacon. I was provided an account for free when I bought my season pass at one of the resorts. I thankfully haven’t had to use this app yet but seeing as I’m not a backcountry guy (yet) and can’t justify the purchase of a beacon just for the occasional tree skiing, it’s nice to know that if something were to happen the local Ski Patrol can use Airflare to find me.
I just wanted to bring this app to your attention, in case you hadn’t heard about it. It could be worth a Blister deep dive and spreading the word to get more use and more growth for this everyman’s-beacon.
