The Moment Factory Store is not a typical Blister Recommended Shop. For one, the showroom is attached to the Moment ski factory, where all their skis are crafted by hand. And they don’t carry soft goods or a wide-ranging selection of products.
Instead, they offer a curated selection of hard goods — only the products that the Moment staff and team use, love, and believe in. But just as importantly, if not more, they also offer a robust array of ski and bootfitting services and a complimentary demo program. And of course, their ski selection comprises the complete line of Moment skis.
Brands
Aside from a full showroom where you can shop the entire Moment lineup and take a tour of the factory, the Moment Factory also stocks a variety of ski boots, bindings, accessories, and Moment apparel.
The Moment Factory Store specializes in stocking the very best equipment from the brands they use and trust the most. They focus on selling higher-end ski boots that trend toward a stiffer flex rating but offer most boot models in complete size runs. For women, this means boots in the 105–115-flex range and for men / unisex boots, flex ratings are in the 120–130 range. Ski boot brands you can find in-store include Lange, Dalbello, Atomic, Salomon, Tecnica, and Dynafit.
As far as bindings go, they carry both alpine and AT models. Their alpine binding selection includes products from Look, Atomic, and Salomon. For alpine touring, it’s no surprise they carry their own Moment Voyager bindings as well as the Cast Freetour System. They also stock ski poles and backcountry safety equipment from Mammut, such as beacons, shovels, and probes. And lastly, you can complete your alpine touring setup with Pomoca skins as well as miscellaneous accessories such as skin wax, at-home kits for ski waxing, and tuning supplies.
Services
The Moment Factory Store offers the full gamut of ski services, including tunes, mounting, waxes, repairs, maintenance, and skin cutting. These services are not just available on Moment skis! But, if you do have Moment skis, regardless of where or when you purchased them, all ski services are free of charge (for the life of the ski). Let’s not forget that a unique aspect of their service includes access to the very same materials and machines used to build their skis, which means repair work and maintenance are second to none. They also offer tours of the ski factory and a look behind the scenes at how some of their skis are manufactured and designed.
All mounting at the factory is while you wait — no turnaround time, no need to come back later. You can even enjoy a free beer while your skis get mounted.
Full bootfitting services are available at the store as well (appointment preferred but not necessary). Better yet, all fitting and work on boots purchased in-store is complimentary for the life of the boot.
Their lead bootfitter, Jake “Fasa” Nelson, who created and runs the bootfitting operation, is fully equipped to get you dialed in, from crafting custom insoles, to molding shells and liners, and performing the full range of boot modifications. Fasa has 15 years of bootfitting experience and is well known in Reno, Salt Lake City, and beyond for his ability to fit a range of people and accommodate their needs. To learn more about Fasa’s approach to bootfitting, you can listen to our GEAR:30 episode with him, embedded above.
Whether you are looking for a new boot, or have a boot in need of some work, the Moment Factory Store can make it happen.
Ski Demos
Moment offers a unique and impressive demo service, wherein you can demo two full days on skis free of charge. This can be done as many times as you’d like throughout the season. This program starts in January and runs through the end season. This demo program features the entire Moment lineup, aside from their Reserve Collection and the Park Skis.
This opportunity makes it possible to compare some of Moment’s different skis, such as the Wildcat and Deathwish, to see what better suits your preferences, or perhaps compare two skis within the same lineup to see what you prefer, such as the Wildcat 101 against the Wildcat 108, to really dial in the right ski for your quiver.
These opportunities make for a rare shop experience — not to mention for a ski factory, so we think these services are pretty valuable to those in the Reno area or anyone who wants to make the trip.
Online Presence
On their website, you can read plenty about Moment itself, their factory, how they craft their skis, and, of course, shop the entirety of the Moment Skis lineup, bindings, and accessories. You can also chat live with Fasa, Luke Jacobson, and the rest of the crew to answer your questions, learn a bit more about a specific ski, or even compare a ski you are considering to what you have now.
One interesting part of the website worth keeping tabs on is its “News” Feed, where you can check out some in-house ski entertainment as well as the “Reserve Series,” where limited releases and special edition skis can be found.
Bottom Line
It might be a little different and is certainly unique to our Blister Recommended Shop Program, but Moment’s showroom and services position them as an incredible resource in Reno, NV, and the Tahoe area.
So whether you are looking for a full new setup, in need of some bootfitting or ski service, are curious about testing some Moment skis, or just want to see a ski factory firsthand, the Moment Factory Store offers a rare combination of all of these things, and is worth checking out on your next stop through Reno.
