Re: Season’s Passes:
I have been buying a season’s pass at my local hill in large part because I want them to continue existing no matter how bad of a snow year it is. It’s a smaller hill so the pass isn’t too expensive, but also only has 2 chairs consistently running…
But then the mega-passes, I don’t care much for. I only have access to one Vail-owned resort, so why pay for all those other ones I can’t afford to go ski at?
So then: should I consider a season’s pass (if I can afford it) my donation to the ski community? Like my 25$ membership to my local MTB association??
I guess one counterargument is that the mega-pass buys you the option of going somewhere with better snow. That has value to people who travel to ski, not so much to a local.
I have Sugar Bowl and Ikon (for Mammoth) passes and I’m basically locked into those 2 mountains for various reasons (kids’ programs, housing), but I can see how the broader skiing public would perceive “insurance value” in a mega-pass.
Photo of the hat please. I’m not on Instagram or wherever you post it
Not going to lie, I want to see an interview with Peak Skis, just to see the “Dumpster Fire”, and hopefully the self-immolation of that organization.
Nobody needs to see another interview with Bode. Trust me, I’ve watched a bunch back when he was racing.
As you said, was strange listening to this knowing the results at the weekend. Pity you (and we) were denied a playoff game between your teams, would have been fun.
Re the Peak discussion and your two questions on Gear30 Jonathan, the only circumstance where I would like to see an interview with Bode and their skis being reviewed, is only after they have made good with Dav, Michelle, their employees, their suppliers and any customers that were left hanging. So in other words, I don‘t expect to be seeing one.
The Telluride situation is just soul crushing. No single person should be able to bend (or break…) a community to his will like that.
Hey Jonathan.
(In response to your three past shows) One existing and straight forward approach to supporting those looking for equitable pay in a safe environment is to support Labor Unions. Pretty straight forward. No need to find another billionaire, or a corporate entity. No need to have some municipal intervention, adding some municipal or otherwise, patrol. Simply support the various Labor Unions. Especially, one specific to safety. If I were a patroller ( I have been, at a one lift hill), in certain resorts, I’d ask for a wage equal to the highest paid instructor ( I have been, well not the highest paid, but pretty darn high) + 20%. Don’t cross the line. Support others, not crossing the line. Use your platform to facilitate support for labor. Your thoughts?
How familiar are you with the specifics of what went down in Telluride? The Telluride Ski Patrol *has* a labor union – The Telluride Professional Ski Patrollers Association.
So, unfortunately, I don’t think we can just say that the answer to creating lasting stability is: “Simply support the various labor unions.”
Hi Jonathan, Sorry for the delay from me. I feel relatively informed about the specifics. Surely, I was informed by your conversation in this particular episode and the previous two (I believe it was two). I read what was published by your guest journalist in his paper. Read the local news. Jumped on Patrols go fund me page. I believe patrol has a facebook page (might be instagram), read that. Talked to an instructor friend at the hill. The day they struck, a friend here locally included me in a text chain on my thoughts of supporting patrol (I said a resounding yes!). Your statement that patrollers on the hill have a labor union, I was well aware of. Not sure where your confusion may have arisen from? Ultimately, my posting reflects a question to you. How about just supporting labor? And really, my query stems from what seemed to be your response to Patrols BA (may have been some other rep from Patrol) in which you seemed off put by Patrol celebrating some modicum of success (not much, right?) against ownership. Did I misunderstand your take? Further, it seemed you were put off by this very minor victory on Patrol’s behalf as some slight against local business owners and other workers within the Community. Did I misunderstand your take? So again, I ask, why not just support labor? Support others not crossing the line, in the future? Use your platform for supporting labor? But I suppose your response is no, supporting labor is not a sustainable approach for supporting Telluride’s Patrol?
The NFL jock banter, which started as a brief and slightly amusing diversion, has metastasized into a self indulgent and painfully repetitive bore fest. For those of us not indoctrinated into mainstream US sportsing, could you please push all the NFL content to the end of the podcast, so we can more easily skip it.
I have good news for you: we publish timestamps in the show notes of every episode of every podcast we put out. You know how to make use of those, right?
To offer a counterpoint, as someone who grew up in a country where Amercian Football was not on tv until, ironically, around the time the Bears won in the era of Payton, McMahon and the Fridge (which shows my age). Apart from when I was living in the US, I had largely ignored Americal Football but Cody and Jonathan have got me watching it again, though not fanatically (in part due to absurd amount of stoppages).
Yes you can use the timestamps and just skip it, though personally as someone who listens to most of the Blister content whilst driving that is not so easy.
Peak…. f those guys.
Jonathan,
Before you shut Football down for tbe season.
How did you do in Cody and Elyse’s fantasy Football League?
Did you draft Non Bears,
Same with Cody and Elyse for the 49ers?
I won…for the 5th time. Jonathan…let’s say he’s got some work to do.
